Wedding Food Trends Have Changed Over the Years

Special event catering services, especially wedding catering, has changed and developed over the years. As food and eating trends have progressed, so have catering trends. It is the job of any good caterer to provide the client with what they want. Many clients, especially brides-to-be, are spending their time on Pinterest, compiling ideas for the perfect wedding, and the perfect event menus. Instead of the old traditions of meatballs and stuffed mushrooms for hors d’oeuvres, many people are choosing lighter fare, like tomatoes and mozzarella cheese drizzled in a balsamic reduction. Caterers are able to anticipate these needs, as they are following the trends themselves.

Many special event menus now include foods and services that are a little bit unconventional. Make-your-own-food bars, such as ice cream sundae bars, nacho bars, and mashed potato bars are becoming more and more popular, as it allows guests a fun bit of food creativity. Many brides and grooms are choosing to include a late-night snack for their hard-partying guests, usually around 10pm. A snack or slider bar is pretty popular for this purpose as well.

There are, of course, different dining options for the main wedding meal. The most popular choices are a sit-down, plated meals, or a buffet. The plated meals are actually a better deal, because guests are more likely to chow down at a buffet, and consume much more food than they would otherwise. Many people believe this type of sit-down meal is classier, as well.

Even dessert is changing on many event menus. Many couples are choosing to forego the tradition layered wedding cake, and go instead with easier, single-serve treats like cupcakes, or cake pops, or even a sundae bar.

The best wedding menus are those that cater to the bride and groom, and their guests. Caterers can adjust food catering menus in order to accommodate certain allergies or religious restrictions.
