Created more than 5,000 years ago, salsa sauce has become a staple in both Mexican and American cuisine. Salsa was first made by the Aztecs as far back as 3000 BC, and it was given its name by the Spanish in the 16th century. Many types of salsa have emerged over the years, and each version provides its own unique and appetizing flavor.

1. Classic mild salsa dips. The classic form of salsa is a tomato-based sauce. Classic salsa mixes chopped tomatoes, peppers, and onions together, and the resulting product is a sauce that is commonly consumed as a dip. However, there are many recipes with salsa dip, as it can also be used in salads, pastas, and omelets.

2. Pico de gallo salsa dips. This is a chunky type of salsa that adds supplemental ingredients to classic salsa. Cilantro, garlic, and lemon juice, for example, are all added to classic salsa in order to modify its flavor. As a result, pico de gallo is used in a variety of recipes with salsa dip, including fajitas and tacos.

3. Southwestern salsa dips. Southwestern salsa recipes add corn and black beans to classic salsa, and these additional vegetables improve salsa nutrition. Furthermore, much like all other types of salsa, southwestern salsa is used in numerous recipes with salsa dip. For example, southwestern salsa can be mixed with rice, or it can be poured on top of an array of vegetables, such as asparagus.
