Golf A Demanding Game

Places to have a wedding reception

Putting. It’s a game of inches in a game that sometimes requires someone to hit the fall several hundred yards. It requires concentration, an understanding of the slopes of a green, an ability to read the grass, whether it is leaning a certain way. Putting. It’s a frustrating part of a frustrating sport.

Golf. It’s a game that was invented in the late 1800’s, by the Scottish people. The idea was simple back in the day. Use sticks with heads to get a small ball into a hole hundreds of yards away. It seemed like a recipe for disaster. Or at least a recipe for frustration. Robin Williams made fun of in his stand-up. It is a game that seems designed to torture.

Golf involves the use of several clubs. These clubs vary in length and vary in the angles of the club faces. This is done to get a grasp of how far a ball will go when it is hit by a certain club. And also the angle at which the ball will fly when it is hit by the club. These determine the “shot selection” of a golfer.

These clubs are labeled also according to the material of the club face. There are “woods” which are generally the longest hitting clubs and ones with the slightest angles on the heads. There are “irons” which are medium range clubs and range from one irons to nine irons. Then there are the wedges, which are used for short range shots.

There are many obstacles golfers face during their round. They will have to hit shots toward a hole sometimes hundreds of yards away. They will face the wind, which changes direction. The wind can sometimes swirl, which makes shots difficult. They will face the rough, which is the part of the course where the grass is higher.

They will face the trees, which they will have to hit around or fly over. These are difficult shots. They will face what is called the “sand bunker.” The sand bunker is pit made out of sand, where a person will have to use a wedge to hit out of if the “lip” (the edge of the sand trap that is high) is high.

Then there are the lakes. The water poses a great threat to golfers, who avoid hitting the ball in the water because there is a loss of stroke. Sometimes the water will be right up next to the “green” (the place where the hole is), giving more danger to golfers who are trying to hit an approach shot.

Then there is the green itself. This is a major obstacle in golf because greens can be different shapes and sizes. They may be on a hill, which is difficult, or may be sloped in different ways. They may be extremely large, such as 30 yard greens, and they may have hills around the green, so that if a putt goes long, it will fall off the green.

Putting is one of the most difficult factors in golf. A good putter will know the green, its slopes, where the grass is tilted, the speed at which to hit the ball, and many more things. A good putter will have a sure stroke that goes straight forward and an even amount of velocity.

There are some statistics about golf that are worth noting. They are:

  • A maximum of 14 clubs is allowed in a player?s bag at one time during a stipulated round.
  • A regulation golf ball has 336 dimples.
  • 23% of professional golfers are female.
  • A 175-pound man can burn 460 calories if he carries his clubs during an hour of play. On a nine-hole course, he can end up walking almost 2.5 miles.
  • The chance of two holes in one in a single round are approx 67 million to 1.
  • By 1900 there were more than 1000 golf clubs in the US.

One ways in which golf clubs help is that they hold Sunday brunch and events for the whole family. While some family members may golf, the clubhouse serves as a social venue for family members. One of these events is Sunday brunch. Sunday brunch might be held with a lot of people. Sunday brunch may be helpful for many.

There are terms worth noting about golfing and Sunday brunch.
